At One World Music Radio, we believe that lines on a map should never divide us. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to bring the entire world together through the only truly universal language there is—music. Armed with unyielding positivity, we have built a dedicated broadcasting platform specifically designed to uplift independent and lesser-known artists who are traditionally underrepresented on commercial radio.

We specialize in genres that soothe the soul, inspire the mind, and heal the spirit. Our station is the global home for New Age music and its related genres, including contemporary instrumental, ambient, acoustic, neo-classical, smooth jazz, piano, and electronic music.

The Foundation (1997–2004): Steve Sheppard began his career with local BBC radio as a sports presenter in January 1997, later moving to the BBC World Service to cover news. After working across various commercial and hospital radio stations, Steve launched The Perfect Remedy Hour in 1998—one of the UK’s very first New Age music radio shows. By 2004, he transitioned to the exciting frontier of internet radio, culminating in the creation of his own station, One World Radio, in 2010.

The Perfect Partnership (2010–2013): Chrissie Sheppard’s radio journey began in 2010 when Steve interviewed her about her work in aromatherapy. Following a dedicated career in nursing and holistic therapies, Chrissie realized that music offered a powerful new vehicle to spread her healing message to a global audience. In July 2013, One World Music Radio was officially born. That same year, Steve and Chrissie married and even had the honor of introducing their new station to Princess Anne at a local event, leaving her thoroughly impressed.

Soaring from Cyprus (2014–Present): A year later, Steve and Chrissie exchanged the UK for the sunnier climes of Cyprus, the Island of Love. This move marked a period of meteoric growth. From their new Mediterranean home, the station's popularity soared to dizzying heights. They established the world’s leading Top 100 album and singles charts for the genre and founded their own highly anticipated annual music awards.​

We are highly respected by the genre’s leading musicians, and we work hand-in-hand with artists to help them promote their music in the most efficient, effective, and supportive way possible.

Integrity in Broadcasting: Our Commitment to Artists
Since day one, One World Music Radio (OWMR) has been built on a single, unwavering foundation: a deep passion for independent music and a commitment to supporting the artists who create it. Founded by Steve and Chrissie Sheppard, OWMR has grown into a global community of nearly 2 million monthly listeners because our audience trusts our curation.

Recently, it has come to our attention that incorrect rumours have circulated online suggesting that OWMR operates on a "pay-to-play" model. We want to state categorically and unequivocally that this is a lie.

To ensure complete transparency for our long-time artists and newcomers alike, here is exactly how our station operates:

1. Airplay Cannot Be Bought
We do not charge artists to submit their music, nor do we accept payment to play a track on the air. Every single piece of music broadcast across our network is selected based strictly on artistic merit, production quality, and how well it fits the aesthetic of our specific shows. If a track is on our airwaves, it is because we genuinely believe in the music.

2. Clear Separation: Broadcast Curation vs. Optional Promotion
Like almost every professional media platform, OWMR offers separate, entirely optional promotional services. This includes advertising on our website or sponsorship of playlists or packages for the artist these are to help musicians increase their visibility.
Participation in these marketing options is 100% voluntary.

Purchasing an ad does not guarantee airplay, and declining to purchase one does not hurt your chances of being played. Our broadcast curation remains entirely independent of our advertising space.
3. A Legacy Built on Mutual Respect.
Unlike predatory entities that exploit independent musicians, OWMR is a fully licensed internet radio station. We operate through legitimate syndication pipelines that track and report spins to Performing Rights Organizations (PROs). Our podcast platform, Mixcloud, uses a highly sophisticated automated audio-trawling software system. This software automatically identifies every single track we play, ensuring spins are logged properly and artists receive the legitimate royalties they deserve.
